Are Dyson Vacuums Cleaners Really Better?
Dyson vacuum cleaners have been credited with shaking up the whole vacuum cleaner market in the last few years. A few years ago, the UK's Which? magazine took Dyson to task for its below-average repair record, when they reported after surveying hundreds of Dyson owners. However, the newer Dyson vacuum cleaners appear to have improved. To further help, Dyson has upped the warranty for new purchases to a full five years. This also applies to U.S. marketed Dyson vacuum cleaners.
Recently a couple of reviews took a close look at Dyson and its claim to have the best suction of any cleaner on the market. The Wall Street Journal tested a Dyson vacuum cleaner alongside competitors, and reported that Dyson didn't hold any particular advantage. Consumer Reports also puts Dyson Vacuum Cleaners to the test with pet hair. The company claims its Animal line, which consists of the DC17 Absolute Animal (*Est. $550) -- along with the DC07, DC14,DC15, and DC25 Animal -- is better at picking up pet hair from upholstery. Consumer Reports tested the Dyson vacuum cleaners along with dozens of others on their ability to pick up pet hair from carpet, but Dyson vacuum cleaners did not turn out to be a particular standout.
Hundreds of consumer reviews at Amazon.com and Epinions.com rate most of the Dyson vacuum cleaners most highly, despite their cost. Although positive reviews are sprinkled with complaints about heavy weight, awkward controls, hard-to-find replacement parts and breakdowns, most owners say the extra cost was still worth it. The reviews are particularly positive for the lightweight Dyson DC18 Slim All Floors (*Est. $400), which owners say is easier to maneuver than previous Dyson upright vacuum cleaners. Also doing well in professional reviews is the 16-pound DC18 , earning a Best Buy rating from Which? and kudos from Good Housekeeping and The Independent.
